2013 Competition Entry
Scope of Work
- Architectural Design
Arkitektura was invited by a consortium to participate in the competition for the design and construction of a new Government Complex in Guayaquil to include: offices, parking, retail, and outdoor spaces on a 25000 m2 footprint. The design concept would also have to integrate an existing building on the property.
Our design breaks the project into six new closely-spaced elongated buildings with longest facades oriented North and South—minimizing direct sun exposure. The spacing of the buildings was designed to maximize indirect light, aid in cooling, and create welcome shade in the connecting courtyards. and Curtain walls with double-pane glass and operable windows bring in natural light and ventilation on North and South facades. Special insulation and aluminum mesh panels on East and West walls add to the energy efficiency.
Office buildings are connected by a continuous parking volume whose roof serves as a garden unifying the whole complex.
